By far, the largest number of fish...

are just "nice eating size".   But below, are pictures showing just a "few" of the bigger fish caught out of Newlands - some with guides, some without.  Customarily, most of them are released back into the river, for other anglers to enjoy the catch again.  But the choice is yours.   Did you know you can release the fish and have it mounted too?

Chuck Hayden (right), from Farmington MO, with a monster brown trout caught near the Bull Shoals State Park about one mile below Bull Shoals Dam.   On a local set of scales, the fish weighed 36.78 pounds - but actually would weigh more as its head and tail were resting on the table (it was too big for the scales).  A quandary resulted between an intent to release the noble fish back to the river, or wait until official scales could be brought from the Game & Fish Commission that may well result in a state, or world, record, or both - but jeopardizing its health.  A decision had to be made...the fish was released.   Chuck was on a trip with Bill Barr Company of Kansas City.  His guide was Jeff Moore.     28 July '12
